Sundown & Slices at Nourse Farm: A Summer Evening on the Farm
/There’s something special about the farm at sunset.
The light softens, the fields quiet down, and everything slows just enough to take it all in. On Tuesday evenings, we invite you to experience that moment with us at Sundown & Slices—our weekly sunset tour and tasting here at Nourse Farm.
It’s an opportunity to step into the fields, learn about what’s growing, discover the history of one of New England's oldest farms, and enjoy a taste of the season—all in one relaxed, memorable evening.
Each visit unfolds naturally with a guided walk through the fields, stories from the farm, and a tasting inspired by the week's featured crop.
Whether you're visiting with family, spending time with friends, planning a date night, or simply looking for a peaceful way to enjoy a summer evening, Sundown & Slices offers a chance to slow down and connect with the land, the food, and the people who grow it.
What Makes Each Week Different
No two weeks on the farm are exactly the same—and that's part of what makes these evenings so enjoyable.
Each Tuesday, we focus on a seasonal crop at its peak. Rather than trying to experience everything the farm has to offer in one visit, guests get a closer look at what's happening in the fields right now.
Early in the summer, that might mean blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or currants. As the season progresses, we'll explore peaches, sunflowers, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, greens, melons, and more.
Every tour reflects the changing rhythm of the farm, giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at how food is grown, harvested, and enjoyed throughout the season.
And of course, there's always time to pause and appreciate the peaceful beauty of the farm as the sun begins to set.
Our First Sundown & Slices: A Blueberry Evening to Remember
Our inaugural Sundown & Slices on July 14 was everything we hoped it would be—a relaxed summer evening filled with learning, laughter, great conversation, and delicious food.
Guests began by learning about the rich history of Nourse Farm, which has been feeding the community since 1722. We shared stories of the farm's more than 300 years of continuous agriculture before introducing everyone to some of our horses and cattle, longtime residents of the farm.
From there, we made our way into one of our beautiful blueberry fields, where guests learned about one of North America's most remarkable native fruits.
Along the walk, we shared some fun blueberry facts:
Blueberries are one of the few fruits native to North America, making them a true American superfruit with deep roots in our agricultural history.
Their beautiful blue color comes from natural antioxidants called anthocyanins, which help support heart and brain health.
Blueberries are packed with vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber, and manganese, making them one of nature's most nutrient-dense fruits.
Healthy blueberry bushes can continue producing fruit for decades, rewarding generations of farmers with abundant harvests.
Every blueberry has a tiny five-pointed star on the end opposite the stem. That little star is actually the remains of the flower that once bloomed before becoming the berry—a fun detail you'll never be able to unsee once you know it's there!
As the evening came to a close, everyone gathered under the tent to enjoy the perfect ending to a summer evening—a generous slice of Nourse Farm's famous blueberry crumb pie, topped with creamy Maple Valley Creamery vanilla ice cream and fresh-picked blueberries.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, guests lingered over dessert, sharing stories and enjoying the peaceful views across the farm. It was exactly the kind of evening we envisioned when we created Sundown & Slices.
A Farm with Deep Roots
Nourse Farm has been part of this landscape since 1722, making it the oldest continuously operating farm in Westborough.
Founded by descendants of Rebecca Nurse, the farm represents an important chapter in New England's agricultural history. Today, multiple generations of the Nourse family continue the tradition of growing fresh fruits and vegetables while welcoming visitors to experience life on a working farm.
Walking these fields means walking through more than three centuries of farming history—a place where tradition and innovation continue to grow side by side.
A Taste of What's in Season
We always save the best for last.
Each Sundown & Slices tour concludes with a tasting inspired by that week's featured crop, giving guests an opportunity to experience the incredible flavors of produce harvested at its peak.
Many of our tastings feature items prepared right here in our farm store kitchen using ingredients grown just steps away.
Depending on the season, guests may enjoy slices of fresh fruit pie, homemade jams, warm donuts topped with seasonal fruit, fresh salsas, pickled vegetables, or other farm-inspired creations that celebrate what's growing that week.
It's a delicious reminder that some of the very best food comes directly from the farm.
Make an Evening of It
Sundown & Slices is designed to be welcoming, educational, and enjoyable for guests of all ages.
You'll walk a little, learn a little, taste a little, and leave with a deeper appreciation for local agriculture and the incredible food growing all around us.
If it's your first visit, it's a wonderful introduction to Nourse Farm. If you've been visiting us for years, it's an opportunity to experience the farm in an entirely new way as each week's featured crop changes with the season.
After your tour, there's still plenty to explore—from our pick-your-own fields and harvest-filled farm store to our market-style CSA, farm-to-table food truck, and seasonal events.
Join us on a Tuesday evening and experience the beauty of the farm as day turns to dusk. Every week tells a different story, celebrates a different crop, and offers a new reason to return.
We look forward to welcoming you to the farm.
