The Raspberry Donut Dip Kicks Off Raspberry Season at Nourse Farm

Summer has officially arrived at Nourse Farm, and we're celebrating with a delicious new tradition. Our new Raspberry Donut Dip—made with farm-grown raspberries and local honey—is the perfect companion to our warm cider donuts and a sweet way to welcome the start of raspberry season.

But the Raspberry Donut Dip is more than just a new farm treat. It celebrates one of our favorite crops and the beginning of nearly four months of fresh raspberry picking in Westborough, Massachusetts.

Raspberry Season Lasts Longer Than You Think

Many people think raspberry season only lasts a few weeks, but at Nourse Farm, visitors can enjoy fresh raspberries from late June through the first frosts of October.

How? We carefully grow several raspberry varieties that ripen throughout the summer and into the fall, creating one of the longest raspberry seasons in Massachusetts.

Our raspberry season typically unfolds like this:

  • Late June: Revelry and Prelude raspberries begin the harvest.

  • Early July: Black raspberries arrive with their rich, distinctive flavor.

  • August: Encore raspberries keep the harvest going through mid-summer.

  • Late Summer: Polana and Caroline produce abundant crops.

  • September: Golden raspberries add a sweeter, unique flavor to the fields.

  • Until Frost: Heritage raspberries continue producing well into autumn.

Whether you visit in June, August, or September, there's a good chance fresh raspberries are waiting to be picked.

Discover the Many Flavors of Raspberries

Not all raspberries taste the same. At Nourse Farm, you'll find several varieties, each offering its own unique flavor and character.

Red Raspberries

The classic favorite, red raspberries offer the perfect balance of sweetness and bright acidity. They're delicious fresh, baked into pies, made into jams, or frozen for later.

Black Raspberries

Black raspberries are smaller, darker, and richer in flavor than red varieties. Their deep, almost wine-like sweetness makes them a favorite for desserts, preserves, and fresh eating.

Golden Raspberries

Golden raspberries are naturally sweeter and slightly milder than traditional red berries. Their beautiful golden color and delicate flavor make them a fun discovery for many first-time visitors.

Growing multiple varieties gives our guests the opportunity to experience the remarkable diversity found within a single fruit crop.

Pick Your Own Raspberries in Massachusetts

There's something special about picking berries straight from the cane. It's one of summer's simplest pleasures and a wonderful activity for families, couples, and anyone looking to spend time outdoors.

Fresh-picked raspberries are perfect for:

  • Eating right out of the container

  • Homemade pies and cobblers

  • Smoothies

  • Jam and preserves

  • Freezing for winter recipes

  • Topping yogurt, oatmeal, or salads

Because raspberries are so delicate, locally picked fruit is often sweeter, fresher, and more flavorful than berries shipped across the country.

From the Berry Patch to the Bakery

At Nourse Farm, raspberry season doesn't stop in the fields. Our bakery and farm store celebrate the harvest with handcrafted treats made using the flavors of the season.

One longtime customer favorite is our Raspberry Chocolate Bottom Pie, a rich combination of sweet raspberries and chocolate that has become a summer tradition for many families.

This year, we're excited to introduce our newest seasonal favorite: the Raspberry Donut Dip.

Made with farm-grown raspberries and local honey, this sweet-tart dipping sauce pairs perfectly with our warm cider donuts, creating a simple but unforgettable taste of summer. It's another way we're bringing the harvest from our fields into the farm store and sharing the flavors of the season with our visitors.

Why Local Raspberries Taste Better

When you buy locally grown raspberries, you're enjoying fruit that has been allowed to fully ripen on the plant before it's picked.

That means local raspberries are often:

  • Sweeter and more flavorful

  • Fresher than berries shipped long distances

  • Perfect for baking, freezing, and preserving

  • A delicious way to support local Massachusetts agriculture

Every visit helps support local farming while connecting families with fresh food and the people who grow it.
