Station Post Text: In front of you is a new planting of blueberries (2018).  They will begin to be harvested in a few years and may bear fruit until 2050!

Besides blueberries, Nourse Farm produces five other types of berries, including raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, currants, and gooseberries.

Food Focus: Blueberries are the most popular berry in the US and are one of the few fruits native to North America, having been consumed here for centuries. Did you know that blueberries are the one true, blue food?  Blueberries are cultivated in the US between May and October, with their peak season at Nourse Farm usually early July through early August.

Blueberries have one of the highest antioxidant capacities among all foods and contain a powerful phytonutrient called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are cancer-fighting chemicals and are anti-inflammatory. Blueberries also assist with collagen formation, iron absorption, and immune function. One cup of blueberries has ~80 calories, 20% of your daily vitamin C, 25% of manganese and 30% of vitamin K.  Often eaten by the berry, blueberries are great add-ons to cereals, yogurts and ice cream.
